The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science is highly regarded, nationally recognized program that was ranked 5the overall by the National Resource Council. We are located near two federal labs, NASA Goddard and NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction as well as the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC), the Cooperative Institute for Climate and Satellites (CICS-MD), and the Joint Global Climate Research Institute. This offers a unique opportunity for students to get involved in research projects early on in their career. In fact, the capstone of our program is a full year senior research project where our students work under the guidance of research advisors to develop the analytic and communication skills necessary for a variety of career paths.
