Multi-angle Implementation of Atmospheric Correction (MAIAC) Algorithm

Abstract:  

Multi-Angle Implementation of Atmospheric Correction (MAIAC) is an operational algorithm that uses time series analysis and processing of groups of pixels for advanced cloud detection and retrieval of aerosol and surface bidirectional reflectance properties. The broad interdisciplinary suite of MAIAC MODIS C6 products (MCD19) was officially released in Spring of 2018. I will give a general overview of MAIAC algorithm and its MODIS products, discuss validation and current status. I will also introduce MAIAC siblings for processing of the DSCOVR EPIC and geostationary AHI-8 HIMAWARI satellites and discuss new directions of aerosol research from space.
