Station Maintenance

Recommendations for the Routine Operation of the Station:

The International Training Workshop, entitled: “College on Solar/Atmospheric Radiation: Principles, Measurements, and Applications”, held at Ilorin, Nigeria during October 26 to November 6, 1998, provided an opportunity to evaluate the status and needs of the Ilorin station by a panel of experts. Recommendations for improvements have been formulated, and some of those recommendations have been implemented. A summary of station status and recommendations will be presented.

A brief history of the station is provided in Appendix A.  The status of the station on October 26, 1998, is described in Appendix B. The station set-up and status after the October-November, 1998 up-grade, is described in the Station Upgrade report . Procedures were developed to ensure the smooth operation of the station: a chain-of command has been established to address unexpected situations. This later is important in view of the hardships encountered at the site, due to problems related to frequent power outage, fuel shortage, and the lack of an efficient e-mail system. For more details on these procedures, refer to Appendix C .
