Purpose
The Office of the State Climatologist is the state repository for climate information. We provide climatic data to Maryland state businesses, agencies, students, researchers, and citizens. We maintain links with many cooperative observers in the state, the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Weather Service Offices, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and many other sources of weather and climate information. For climate data, please contact us and submit a data request.
Our Mission
The functions of the State Climatologist and its office include:
● Act as a laison between Maryland weather users and the
National Climatic Data Center (NCDC)
● Maintain a data bank of climatological, hydrological, and
meteorological information
● Supply data in a useful form to users
● Refer requests for complex data or information by the user to
the appropriate person, agency, or consulting firm
● Maintain contact with users of climatic and hydrological data
to ascertain their needs for data and analysis
● Study the climate of Maryland, climate change, and perform
extensive research in these areas
