Hurricanes

The state of Maryland is highly susceptible to tropical weather, such as hurricanes, tropical storms, and tropical depressions.  The coastal waters of Maryland can be affected by high storm surge, which may produce significant damage to those living in these regions.  It is necessary to be aware of tropical storm development and its projected path, in order to be prepared if one moves toward the Mid-Atlantic states.  Climatologically, there have been 2-3 hurricanes making landfall in Maryland over the past 107 years (1900-2007).  You will find links below to the National Hurricane Center, including information on current tropical activity, tropical cyclone climatology, and hurricane preparedness.
