Dr. Hugo Berbery has collaborations with students and researchers from different institutions. His research interests are on regional climate modeling with a focus on land surface-atmosphere interactions, their relation to the water and energy cycles, and potential contributions to understanding the predictability of the hydro-climate system.

He is currently working with ecologists to examine the ecosystem-climate feedbacks and identify time-varying Ecosystem Functional Types that should provide a better representation of the land surface biophysical properties in regional models.

Dr. Berbery is also interested in climate diagnostics and dynamics, focusing on droughts over the Americas and their forcings, as well as on the modulation of daily precipitation by lower frequency large scale modes.
