    2. Term report on Seminar of your Choice(max 2 pages)

The term project aims to enhance your understanding of a seminar that interests you. Choose one of the seminars and research one of the topics covered by the seminar speaker in more detail (reading one or two related papers). Write a 2 page report on this topic that includes a list of reference(s). A draft of this paper is due three weeks after the seminar or on December 12 (whichever date is earliest). The final report is due by 5 PM EDT on December 16. Grading is based on the overall quality of the report.

    3. Impressions report on three Seminars of your choice (max 1 page each)

In addition, each student is expected to write three one page (or less) reports on seminars and Meet-the-Speaker events he/she has attended this semester. These reports should be written within a few weeks of the seminar and discuss what the student learned (if anything) from the seminar. These reports can also include thoughts on what he/she liked and disliked about the presentation. For example, was the presentation aimed at your level? Was the topic interesting? What would you have done to improve the seminar? What did you learn from the Meet-the-Speaker session?

Term reports and seminar-impression reports can be dropped by my office (3423 CSSB) or sent via e-mail.

    4. Exception for irregularly scheduled seminars

Some seminars may be scheduled irregularly not on Thursday or at a different time on Thursday. Attendance and participation in such irregularly scheduled seminars is encouraged but not required. These seminars may be used for the term report or seminar-impression reports.

    Honor Code

Students must abide by the University of Maryland Code of Academic Integrity. Here is the link to the Student Honor Council.

    Grading

Grading is based on seminar and Meet-the-Speaker session attendance and participation (50%), the term report (25%), and the impression reports (25%). Please inform me if you need extra time to complete the term- and/or impression-reports. Missing a deadline without prior approval may result in a zero for that portion of your grade.

    Grading criteria:
    S: 70.00% -- 100.00%
    F: 0.00% -- 69.99%
