Time and Location

Seminars are held on Thursday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the main auditorium of the Computer and Space Science Building (Rm. 2400, New Wing).

Audience

Seminars are generally well attended by faculty and students from the Department of Meteorology, ESSIC and other departments of the University. They are also attended by scientists from NASA/GSFC, NOAA/NCEP, IGES/COLA, and other environmental science laboratories in the Washington Metropolitan Area. The series is widely advertised through direct-mailing and e-mail notices.

Due to the diverse background of the audience, please consider providing a brief (5-10 min) introduction of the subject before presenting your work in depth.

The three airports serve the Washington Metropolitan Area:

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) 30 mins. by car;
Washington National Airport (DCA) 30 mins. by car;
Dulles International Airport (IAD) 45 mins. by car;

The nearest railway stations are New Carrollton and Union Station. Both are about 15-20 mins. by taxi from the campus.

The campus is also accessible via the Washington Metro (College Park stop on Green Line).

Hotels Near the University of Maryland

Popular choices include:

UMUC University Inn and Conference Center (Marriott): to the north; quiet setting with restaurant; 15 min walk to the Department of Meterology; on the way you will see parking lots/stadium/buildings/grass;
Quality Inn: to the south in downtown College Park on Baltimore Ave.; 15-20 min walk to the Department of Meterology, and on the way you will see stores/bars/restaurants/students/chapel/grass;
Marriott in Greenbelt: more upscale, located in a business center, 10 min drive.

Expenses

If the Department is reimbursing your expenses, then please download and fill out the following Expense Statement (Ignore the "Calculate" button at the bottom of the form).

Original receipts are needed for the University to reimburse your expenses.
